  • Cleanse Your Personal Care Products: Avoid using cosmetics containing: diethanolamine (DEA), triethanolamine (TEA), nitrosamines (these are just a few of the many toxic chemicals found in cosmetics);
    • Avoid shampoo that contains polyethylene glycol, propylene glycol, DMDM hydantoin, sodium lauryl sulfate, coal tar, polysorbates 60 & 80, FD & C 60 & 80.
    • Avoid toothpaste that contains saccharin, FD & C Blue 1 or polysorbate 80.
    • Avoid deodorants/Antiperspirants that contain aluminum.
  • Cleanse Your Home & Work Environment:
    • Home cleaning products, air fresheners, & household/garden pesticides are common sources of toxins. Visit EWG’s Guide to Healthy Cleaning to learn which products are safer to use in your home & yard.
    • Other sources of toxins include synthetic carpets, solvents from dry cleaning; electromagnetic fields.
  • Cleanse Your Habits: Consider quitting or reducing smoking (cigarette, pipe & cigar), use of recreational drugs, & excessive alcohol intake.
  • Cleanse toxic thought patterns: Areas of strife or unhealed wounds in your relationships & negative thought patterns can be a source of chronic stress that is toxic to your health.

These are all incredibly important ways to reduce your body’s toxic burden, but if you’re looking for ideas on how to improve liver health, reduce liver disease risk, and keep your liver healthy, these steps can definitely help. More help can be provided by our functional medicine doctor, too!
